Volunteering at HiTOPS
HiTOPS relies on volunteers from universities, colleges and the community to accomplish is strategic initiatives as well as run daily operations.
- Ongoing Project and Support:
- Mailing Preparation: As needed, from creating lists to folding, stuffing and stamping
- Front Desk Receptionist in Health Center: Weekly, Training and regular commitment required—friendly front desk skills, answer phone, schedule appointments, greet patients, handle forms and paperwork
- Events
- 3 – 12 month commitment. Securing sponsorships and in-kind donations, mailing invitations, selling tickets, decorating.
- Annual GSA Forum Oct/Nov 2011: volunteers needed planning as well as day of set-up, registration and take down
- 25th Anniversary (2012) planning and implementation
- One Time Projects
- Assessment and Evaluation: Individual with expertise to consult with staff on initiative to implement rigorous evaluation and assessment of HiTOPS model to substantiate its approach. Project: define scope of projects. develop tools, teach staff evaluation methodology and implement a project.
- Technology Assessment: Individual with expertise to consult with staff on initiative to develop technology systems to increase efficiency in performance and capacity. Project: 1) assess current hardware/software configurations for each department; 2) recommend ideal capabilities for each department and organization as whole.
- Research: ongoing as need. Work with staff to conduct research projects on specific topics to advance the strategic initiatives and support programming.
- IT: Database Specialist: our current client database is in need of an upgrade. Our paper-based intake form has been redesigned, but we need an IT / database guru to update the underlying patient database to capture the new information. Skills: familiarity with Microsoft Access, SQL and form design. Experience with health/medical data a plus. Time Commitment: 6-10 hours, one-off
- Board Members: Current Board recruitment focus is on increasing the diversity of members to ensure broad representation of input, perspectives, and skills. Currently HiTOPS is looking for the following to assist in the implementation of the strategic plan goals and initiatives:
- Individual characteristics: Asian/Asian Indian, African-American and Hispanic individuals who are parents, 35-45 years of age, with some of the following skills or experience.
- Experience/skills: Finance (Banking, Investment, Accounting), Fundraising experience, Experience on Nonprofit Boards, Connections with media, community, and/or schools in region.
- Expectations:
- 3 Year Term. Max. 2 terms; 6-10 meetings/year; serve on a committee.
- Annual financial commitment with expectations to raise additional dollars from other sources
