First & Third
First & Third is HiTOPS’ educational and social support group for LGBTQ youth and their allies. It meets the first and third Saturdays of each month, from 2:30 – 4:30, at HiTOPS (21 Wiggins Street in downtown Princeton).
First & Third offers:
- A safe space for LGBTQ youth to meet, socialize, and learn.
- Educational activities regarding healthy relationships, sexuality, and STI/HIV prevention.
- Adults and college student guest speakers who serve as role models and mentors for LGBTQ youth.
- Training for LGBTQ youth who want to become effective speakers and group facilitators for HiTOPS educational programs in the community.
First & Third discussion topics and events include:
- Feeling good about being LGBTQ
- Navigating healthcare
- The Internet: What’s safe?
- Negotiation and communication skills
- STIs, HIV, and safer sex
- LGBTQ history
- LGBTQ youth of color
- Healthy relationships
- Religious issues
- Coming out
- Field trips
- Open house for high school LGBTQ groups
- Starting a GSA (Gay-Straight Alliance) in your school
- GSA activities to take back to your school
- Planning community events (Princeton Idol, NJ GSA Forum, LGBTQ Film Festival)
First & Third encourages youth to get to know one another, socialize and have fun! Please join us!
