Join The Trans Youth Forum Youth Advisory Board

HiTOPS Trans Youth Forum is on the horizon on March 27, 2021, and HiTOPS is looking to create its next Youth Advisory Board (YAB) for this amazing event.

We are looking for youth ages 11-24 who identify as trans, nonbinary, or otherwise gender expansive. Youth on the YAB participate in weekly discussions that shape the forum including choosing the theme of the event, selecting speakers, interviewing community leaders, social media promotion & more! The 2021 YAB includes

  • Virtual participation through Zoom and GroupMe
  • 11 positions available
  • 15 hours commitment between February 4 – March 31
  • A $150 Visa gift card

Youth Advisory Board Application

Expectations 

All YAB members are required to meet the following expectations, regardless of position:

  1. Must be 11-24yrs old and identify as trans, nonbinary, or otherwise gender expansive.
  2. Must attend the welcome meeting via Zoom (February 4, 2021).
  3. Must be active in the YAB group chat in the GroupMe app.
  4. Must vote on all TYF21 planning items.
  5. Must submit a video recording of themselves for the Opening and Closing ceremonies.
  6. Must promote TYF21 on social media or at a school/community group.

Available Positions 

Interviewer – 8 Positions Available 

  • Must attend 3 interview prep meetings (1hr each)
  • Must complete 4 interview prep assignments (researching speaker, developing interview questions, practicing interview)
  • Must attend Tech Rehearsal with our guest speaker via Zoom (2hr)
  • Must interview speaker live, during TYF21 (March 27, 2021) via Zoom

THIS POSITION IS GREAT FOR SOMEONE WHO… is considerate and professional. Always treats others with respect. Energetic and positive. Organized. Doesn’t get stage fright easily. Wants the opportunity to speak with trans icons like ALOK, Schuyler Bailar, and Jazz Jennings!

Video Journalist – 2 Position Available

  • Must help identify trans youth doing cool things in their community & individuals working on behalf of trans youth
  • Must record at least 5 short interviews, via Zoom, Facetime, or other video platform
  • Assist staff in the video editing process

THIS POSITION IS GREAT FOR SOMEONE WHO…likes to take charge and be creative. Is interested in people. Is curious and likes learning new things about their community. Is tech-savvy.

Social Media Influencer – 1 Position Available

  • Contribute to the content creation to promote and create an online community for TYF21.
  • Serve as liaison between the Advancement Team & the YAB
  • Help hold YAB members accountable for promotion expectations
  • Lead the YAB’s social media takeover via Instagram during TYF21 (March 27, 2021)
  • May have additional social media takeover opportunities

THIS POSITION IS GREAT FOR SOMEONE WHO…loves to post on social media. Enjoys getting people pumped up! Is responsible, respectful, and professional. Creative and a team player.
