We at HiTOPS will always stand with Trans youth and their families.
Trump has signed an executive order that aims to shut down gender-affirming medical care for people under the age of 19, making clear he does not support the science and the lived experiences of trans people. His cruelty, ignorance, and intention to marginalize trans people are on full display.
Everyone deserves access to the highest quality, evidence-based health care. This dangerous and outrageous threat to the well-being, health, and safety of trans youth is intolerable.
The order sets as policy that the federal government will not “fund, sponsor, promote, assist, or support transition.” The implications are ominous for research and education on gender-affirming services, as well as clinical care. Already, state attorneys general as well as civil rights and LGBTQ+ advocacy organizations are gearing up to launch challenges to this action.
Now is the time to be vigilant. Educate yourself. Show you care. Get organized.
- Reach out to a young person and offer support, care and reassurance that you stand with them! Refer them to HiTOPS for information on support groups, our after-school drop-in center, and other programs and services for queer young folks and their families.
- Attend the free, virtual HiTOPS Trans Youth Forum on Saturday, March 29th. Registration opens soon at www.hitops.org.
- Stay Informed! Some organizations to follow in addition to HiTOPS include ACLU, Garden State Equality, Human Rights Campaign, Lambda Legal
The Trump administration seeks to isolate, silence, and terrify us. We will not succumb.
Now more than ever, we will continue to keep our doors open for trans youth.
Support trans lives. Support trans joy.
